Another Solicitor General bites the dust

In a Friday full of political scandal (federally and provincially), former Solicitor General Kash Heed announced his resignation from the position. Apparently he is under investigation for violating the Elections Act and is currently being investigated by a special prosecutor.

The position of Solicitor General has not been kind to people in British Columbia. This includes:

1. John Les, under special prosecution investigation relating to the investigation of land deals which has been going on for the past two years;
2. John van Dongen; who resigned after his traffic ticket record became a liability on the campaign trail;
3. And now, Kash Heed, who resigned after it became known he was being investigated for Elections Act violations.

The question is “what violations”? My guess would be improper disclosure of raised funds, and/or improper disclosure of how such funds were spent (possibly meaning that they exceeded their $70,000 expense limit). I am personally amazed that this is being investigated simply because to my knowledge, Elections BC’s financing arm has not prosecuted any violations of the Act. It would even be more surprising if such an investigation led to the resignation of an elected official.

This also means there will be some sort of cabinet shuffle upcoming.

    I think this latest BC Liberal Cabinet Minister’s resignation, and alleged wrong doings of unclaimed Elections BC Financing costs, regarding an alleged english – chinese electoral Liberal Party political brochure, is really disturbing and strongly reinforces the need for democratic electoral reform and stronger election campaign enforcement and MLA ethical accountability. The numerous criminal scandals and allegations that surround and haunt the BC Campbell Liberals, from BC Rail. to Bassi – Virk ALR land deals, to the Premiers drunk driving conviction, to Jane Thornthwaite the hapless North Vancouver BC Liberal MLA that was recently busted also for drunk driving, and the third resigination in just two years of a solicitor-general under the Campbell Liberals appears endless. On March 28, 2008., the first of these three solicitor – generals ( the peoples top cop ) had to resign admist allegations of Agricultural Land Reserve development and influence peddling, as Mayor of Chilliwack.
    Kash Heed’s predecessor Abbotsford’s John Van Dongen, ( whom also served as Agriculture & ALR Minister ) was forced to step down amid revelations he had nine speeding tickets, and a four-month driving suspension. Three years later the investigation into the John Les fiasco is still going on, with no resolve in sight. One has to wonder how all this is possible, when the BC Liberal Campbell government has forever bragged, campaigned and promoted themselves as being so ethical, accountable and the most transparent of BC legislators. All Poppy Cock!
    Heed BC’s third top cop to stand down, is not surprising considering the Liberal track record and the Liberal’s needs of having to continue in retaining criminal defense legal counsel. Surely to God and hopefuly to God, the electorate will finally clue in. I know 2013 is a long time too wait. In 2013 lets all break from common electoral tradition, that of voting out the unpopular party of the day. Let us all vote in individual thinkers and common sense folk with common sense ideas and integrity, instead of the everyday self serving, pension seeking, run of the mill Liberal, Conservative and NDP politicians.

    Me, as an old girl, gets totally overwhelmed, trying to make sense, of the tangle going on, in the BC Liberal Party. Hansen, makes me boil, he tries to pass the HST, as the best thing for BC to get out of the recession. However, he doesn’t combine the HST, with the budget. Where the HST doesn’t catch you, the budget does. And I can say for a fact, being on a fixed pension, a senior can not survive. The price gouging, on food costs is nuts. Pensioners, can not afford to pay over, $14.00 for one chicken, nor $3.69, for a loaf of bread. However, our “new” carbon tax, has caused trucking company’s to raise freight rates, so food costs will be even higher. Everything trucked in will cost more. Gasoline, has already gone up, and with each summer vacation time, gas goes even higher, always does. Where is the common sense? How do people, earning the minimum wage, $8.00 per hour feed themselves, if the $235, reimbursement is per month, it’s possible, to survive, barely. To me, the selling out of BC’s assets and natural resources, leaves little to climb out of the recession with. Campbell and Hansen’s taxing frenzy, is going to make everything worse. I think the number of homeless people, will double. To me, it’s simple. We don’t like Campbell, Hansen nor the Liberals, we don’t trust or believe you, get lost.
