BC Liberal MLA Murray Coell (Saanich North and the Islands) has announced he is not running in the next election. He was first elected in 1996.
This is not too surprising. He was narrowly re-elected in 2009 with 44.9% of the vote, with the NDP candidate, Gary Holman, receiving 44.1% of the vote. Notably, Holman received the NDP nomination for the riding again and stands a very good chance of being elected in 2013.
He is the fifth BC Liberal MLA to announce he is no longer running again.

I was one of two high school students who helped with Gary’s campaign.
It was too bad that he wasn’t elected but having done so well was still a great accomplishment.
It was smart for Murray to step down as there’s no way he’ll get the nomination this time around.
