Kevin Falcon announced today he is stepping down as Minister of Finance and also will not be running in the next provincial election. This makes 7 BC Liberal MLAs that are no longer running again that have formally announced so. George Abbott is rumoured to be the next one.
What will be interesting is if an incumbent Surrey MLA decides to run in Surrey-Cloverdale instead of their home riding – the seat is relatively more favourable to the BC Liberals than the others. My guess is that Stephanie Cadieux will make the swap.
Falcon has an excellent political radar and likely saw the electoral writing on the wall since he narrowly lost the leadership race against Christy Clark. I very much doubt he would have wanted to spend four years in opposition.

Looking back to 2001, 24 of the NDP MLAs ran for re-election. Rick Kaspar also ran for re-election but did so as an independent
